Interning at InFocus:

Journalism students looking for hands-on experience in a fast-paced journalism environment are encouraged to apply for an internship with InFocus, the largest American Muslim newspaper serving the community of Southern California.

Internship Description:

Interns will have the opportunity to assist in all aspects of producing a newspaper, including news gathering, writing, editing, layout, production, subscriptions, advertising, and promotion for the paper.

Intern Activities:

• Tracking news, attending and covering events
• Photography, scanning, and visual graphics
• Editing submissions and letters to the editor
• Soliciting and designing advertisements
• Preparing promotional material for the newspaper
• Working in Adobe InDesign to complete layout
• Other newspaper related duties

 Once your application is received, you may be contacted for an interview.

• Interns receive gas and ticket compensation for events attended on behalf of the newspaper. Students can also receive class credits from their college or university.
  
• Interns are expected to behave in a mature Islamic manner and to adhere to InFocus's internal policies and procedures.
  
• Interns are expected to work at least 15 to 20 hours a week. Also, interns must be ready to work weekends and evenings as needed.
  
• Interns should have their own medical insurance in case of illness.
  
• Interns coming from outside the Los Angeles area are expected to make their own arrangements for housing, food, and transportation during the internship.
  
• Proof of eligibility for employment - Original documentation must be presented on the first day of the internship.
  
• Proof may be:
       your U.S. Passport, alien registration card, certificate of naturalization, certificate of U.S. citizenship, current foreign passport with employment authorization 
  OR 
       your driver's license PLUS your Social Security card, birth certificate, or current INS employment authorization.
  
• An internship at InFocus is an acceptable method for receiving college credit. Be sure to visit your college/institution and follow the necessary steps and procedures for getting your internship approved by the registrar's office. InFocus will comply with the necessary procedures to assist you in attaining college credit for your internship. Please notify us if you require any further assistance with these procedures for attaining college credit, or if you should require proof of your internship with our organization.
