Bush vs. Ahmedinejad

What happened at Columbia University was a disgrace to so-called "freedom of expression." The event and the media frenzy following the event proved that American culture is assuming dangerously shameless colors. A head of state, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, was introduced in perhaps the most uncivilized language ever used by a host for a guest. Ahmadinejad was given this treatment in Bush’s America that has beaten all previous records of tyranny and oppression. Let us put forward some facts about Bush’s America and Ahmadinejad’s Iran:

1. No deaths of innocents can be attributed to President Ahmadinejad; President Bush is directly responsible for the deaths of at least one million innocents. And the irony is that the man, Osama Bin Laden for whose supposed crimes it was done and his network are still alive and well.

2. Bush put Prize money on the heads of at least two states; no such heinous activity can be attributed to Ahmadinejad.

3. Ahmadinejad was elected President by a much greater percentage of Iranian population than was Bush by American people.

4. Ahmadinejad enjoys at least double the rate of popularity Bush enjoys at home.

5. Iran is a much more peaceful and peace-loving country than America. During last one century, the only war it fought was against Iraq, which was imposed on Iran, courtesy of America.

6. In Iran, the crime rate including murders and rapes is not even one tenth of that in America.

7. Iran has not even a tenth of the rate of incidence America has of sexually transmitted diseases.

Islam column is great

As always, I enjoyed your September 07 issue. I especially enjoyed sister Yasmin Mogahed’s article, "Make the most of Ramadan." As each one of her past articles, it was informative, encouraging and most importantly, it was strictly about the deen of Islam. Great job, please keep them coming.

Inshallah I intend to make the most of Ramadan, I intend to learn the true meaning of piety and righteousness inshaAllah. And may Allah forgive my sins.

Re: Edina Lekovic, spokeswoman for the Muslim community

I had no idea that Edina Lekovic came from such an interesting and different background than many Muslims I know. I’ve watched her on television and have admired her poise and presentation on topics that affect Muslims in this country. I can certainly understand and appreciate the struggles she must go through being a vocal Muslim woman advocate. She is a truly inspiring young leader.

It is nice to see that InFocus takes an interest on reporting to the community about young leaders, especially women. With its fresh take on these leaders, I think I can speak for many, that InFocus gives us hope that our future is a bright one. More and more youth can look up to these contemporaries for guidance and reassurance and believe that one day, they too can be successful in making a difference in this world.

I’m a foster parent

Thank you InFocus for spotlighting the issue of our community needing foster families!

Ten years ago, my wife and I responded to the call for becoming a foster family. Back then, it was unheard of for a Muslim family to do that. There were no Muslim community agencies like UPLIFT, New Star Family Center or ACCESS to direct Muslim children to Muslim foster families. Our home welcomed perhaps thirty to forty children from all nationalities and religions throughout these years. We even were blessed to adopt twin girl orphans who are growing up healthy and strong.

It has been a blessing and worthwhile experience that we highly recommend to others. These children just need stability and love. Some children make a good impression that last with you for years. It would really be nice to see more in the Muslim community become foster families, even adopting from right here in the U.S. without having to go ‘back home.’ As Shaikh Fazaga rightfully stated in your article, "This is a communal obligation."
