Ihsan Bagby was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1969, after reading the autobiography of Malcolm X, Bagby converted to Islam. He has been an active member of the Muslim community ever since. His interest and passion for the faith led him to obtain a Ph.D. in Islamic studies from the University of Michigan. Currently, he serves as the general secretary for the newly-formed Muslim Alliance in North America, or MANA, and also sits on the national board for the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). He has conducted extensive research on the study of the roles of mosques in America and published articles on that subject. Bagby’s main focus lies in the African American Muslim community. Through his role as general secretary of MANA, he hopes to resolve the issues that impact the urban community and, in turn, help the image of Islam across America. |
