AYAH AND HADITH

AYAH TO PONDER:

"For, Believers are those who, when Allah is mentioned, feel a tremor in their hearts, and when they hear His signs rehearsed, find their faith strengthened, and put (all) their trust in their Lord; (Qur’an 8:2)

PROPHETIC WISDOM:

Abu Salmah related that Abu Hurayrah said, "The Prophet of Allah (PBUH) kissed Hasan ibn ‘Ali while Aqra’ ibn Habis was sitting nearby. Aqra’ said, ‘I have 10 children and have never kissed one of them.’ The Prophet (PBUH) looked at him and said, ‘Those who show no mercy will be shown no mercy.’ " (Bukhari and Muslim)

 
WHAT DREW ME TO ISLAM: Praying to the same God

I moved into UCLA graduate housing and met my "roomie" in October 2005. The first weeks with my new roommate were really quiet. I was still working in the lab that quarter and taking classes. My roommate, being equally as busy with law school, which left little time for us to get to know each other.

Show gratitude for Allah’s blessings

One day, I gave my students an assignment. I asked the class to make a list of all the blessings Allah had given them. After spending much time compiling long lists, the students felt confident they had accomplished their task. Some lists were longer than others, but the students would soon learn an important lesson.
