The thought that there could be a beauty pageant in an ultra-conservative sheikhdom in the Arabian Peninsula is astounding to anyone familiar with how conservative that part of the world is. Over there, anything that has to do with parading the female body for pleasure or business is anathema to many who value women’s dignity over their freedom of choice — to be exploited as mere sex objects for the pleasure of the male libido. |
