Rising gasoline prices are beginning to have an impact on the driving habits of Americans. Automobile travel during the Memorial Day long weekend was the lowest it has been in 20 years. Many urban areas have seen increased utilization of the public transport system by commuters. The prices of used small cars have risen and the demand for gas guzzling SUVs has declined. These trends may be irreversible in the long term, but there can be no fundamental shift in our driving habits overnight. |
