In its ninth year, Humanitarian Day brings hope to hundreds

LOS ANGELES — Beneath many signs that read "No person shall sit, lie or sleep in or upon any street, sidewalk or other public way," dozens of homeless people lie in the sweltering heat, seeking shade under cardboard boxes or dirty, over-sized clothes.

Irvine mosque unveils plans to move into Great Park

IRVINE, Calif. – The Muslim community came together on Sept. 14 for the Islamic Center of Irvine’s 4th annual Ramadan fundraiser at the Hyatt Regency. Shaikh Muhammad Jibreel, considered one of the foremost reciters of Qur’an today, as well as charismatic Shaikh Ala`Dine Al Bakry, were among the speakers.

Mormons fast with Muslims on first Sunday of September

IRVINE, Calif. — It was the first Sunday of September and the seventh day of Ramadan. Jeffrey Cashin woke up at around 5 a.m. He missed Suhoor but prayed Fajr, and then began to get ready for the long day ahead of him.

Cashin, a medical student at the University of California-Irvine, was one of approximately 70 attendees at an interfaith dinner held at the Islamic Center of Irvine on Sept. 7.

Interfaith community members break fast together

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The eighth annual Ramadan Interfaith Dinner, hosted by the Islamic Shura Council of Southern California, was held on Sept. 21 at the Anaheim Sheraton. The audience of 200 included prominent civic and religious leaders, such as the Deputy Mayor of Los Angeles Arif Ali Khan and Reverend Bishop Tod Brown of the Roman Catholic Diocese - OC.
