The basic premise of our civil justice system is: the courts serve as a way to redistribute wealth from those best able to pay for loss. While the system itself is necessary, some feel it’s tilted too far in favor of plaintiffs, and would like to tilt it back. This is especially true for people who have liability-causing businesses, like operating vehicle fleets or doing surgery. Those looking to protect their family wealth from future hypothetical creditors (not actual ones) have options.
