Amy Goodman: The voice of democracy
By Muneer Adhami
Amy Goodman, host and executive producer of the award winning news program "Democracy Now" and co-author of the national best-seller The Exception to the Rulers: Exposing Oily Politicians, War Profiteers, and the Media that Love Them is a veteran journalist who is not afraid of causing a little provocation. She can be called an activist for conveying the truth or a promoter of opposition and criticism in the media.

Whether she is reporting about natural disasters or the war in Iraq, Goodman believes in providing perspectives seldom heard in the U.S. corporate-sponsored media and has been working hard to provide her audience with just that.

This investigative journalist graduated from Harvard University in 1984 and is known for covering antiwar movements as well as exposing human rights violations in many countries.

Her strong views of the world and progressive style of journalism is what has turned "Democracy Now" from a daily radio program into an independent award winning show.

Goodman was recently in Long Beach as a guest speaker at the Muslim Public Affairs Council annual convention in December. InFocus got a chance to sit down and chat with the award-winning journalist.
