Tonight I took the bus home by myself. After driving for about five minutes our bus pulled over at one of those unexpected "flying checkpoints." A soldier carrying a very large gun and wearing his khaki green army uniform and hat came on the bus.

Starting March 3, a group of self-described secular Muslims held a three-day conference in St. Petersburg, Florida. The event was labeled "Secular Islam Summit" and was purported to discuss ways to reform Islam and rid it of extremism and intolerance. The summit was broadcast live on CNN Headline News’ Glenn Beck’s show and attended by a few dozen people. Summit speakers included self-declared atheist Ibn Warraq, self-called ‘former terrorist’ Tawfik Hamid, Wafa Sultan and former Dutch parliamentarian Ayaan Hirsi Ali.

LOS ANGELES -- American Muslims and Muslim groups have long been a target of harassment and vilification from right-wing pro-Israel groups, a recent front-page article in the New York Times has exposed. Such forces, according to government sources, have used guilt by association to spread suspicion about Islam and Muslims, and in turn, kept Muslims out of mainstream American discourse and stripped them of their influence in the political and social arenas.
