Event raises funds for forgotten earthqake victims Print E-mail
By LAILA KARAMALLY, Contributing Writer

IRVINE, Calif. – Southern California Muslims collectively silenced popular claims of donor fatigue by raising over $38,000 in just one afternoon for Pakistani victims of the October 2005 earthquake. Billed as "Lunch and Movie for a Cause", the private fundraiser was held to benefit Comprehensive Disaster Response Services (CDRS), a nonprofit that has been providing primary and emergency healthcare services in the earthquake affected areas since March 2006.

"I am simply speechless," said a visibly-moved Todd Shea, chief executive officer of CDRS "The people of Pakistan and my staff join me in thanking you from the bottom of our hearts."

The event was organized by a group of Pakistani families, led by pulmonary specialist Dr. Salman Naqvi.
