Exciting, relaxing, adventurous, romantic – whatever you are looking for, Hawaii is the destination where you can have a different experience every day of your stay. Each of the many islands of Hawaii has a character of its own.
This August, my husband and I visited three Hawaiian Islands; Oahu, Maui and the Big Island.
Oahu
We flew into Oahu, picked up our rental and were ready to get started on our Hawaiian vacation. On our way to the hotel, we got stuck in traffic, drove through a big city with high-rise buildings and high-end shops – not what we had expected to see in a tropical island!
Hawaii has something for everyone, if shopping and fine dining is your thing, then rest assured, Honolulu won’t disappoint you. Yet behind the big city lights of Honolulu, the real Hawaii awaits you.
The island of Oahu is filled with adventures. You can hike to the top of Diamond Head Crater for amazing views of the coastline and neighboring islands on a clear day.
Grab some flippers and goggles and head over to Hanuma Bay, a protected marine life conservation area and underwater park perfect for snorkeling and meeting Hawaii’s population that lives under water.
In east Oahu you’ll find the beautiful Lanikai Beach with its inviting turquoise, warm and calm waters, and a spectacular view of the offshore twin islands in the distance.
Then head north for a scenic drive through the North Shore, the quiet side of the island, with pristine white sand beaches, botanical gardens and shrimp shacks off the side of the road, where you’ll find Oahu’s tastiest seafood.
Maui
Maui is a place were you can be sure to indulge your senses. Here we took to the road and headed up the Hana Highway for an unforgettable drive through the rainforest and along the sea.
On the way to Hana, you will experience the sites, smells and sounds of this tropical sanctuary.
Endless waterfalls await you. When you set out on a waterfall hike, you are surrounded by the bounties of Allah. As you trek through the rainforest, the flourishing greenery boasts exotic plants, colorful flowers and tropical fruits.
Along the trails, you hear exotic birds singing in the distance, the profusion of fresh mango and guava fall from the trees right above you, and aromatherapy fills the air, as a different scent awaits you at the turn of each corner.
At the end of the trail, you can swing on a rope and jump in for a swim at Twin Falls or take in the grandure of Waimoku Falls.
Big Island
After our serene visit to Maui, we ventured off to the Big Island. The Big Island is where we were hoping to visit Kilauea, Hawaii’s active volcano. However, upon our visit to Volcanoes National Park, we learned much to our disappointment that the lava flow was not visible at that time.
Yet, we did get to see what is responsible for the Big Islands ever-growing coastline, the old lava flow that met the ocean, resulting in beautiful black sand beaches.
You can take a boat ride along the coast and see numerous waterfalls that flow off the cliffs into the ocean.
Despite my initial skepticism, we found Hawaii to be a place full of adventure, where you can enjoy Allah’s creation. Whether you go as a couple or as a family, Hawaii will prove to be a great destination for all.
