Youth discuss homelessness at workshop Print E-mail
By InFocus News Staff

MISSION VIEJO Calif. -- The Orange County Islamic Foundation or OCIF invited ILM Foundation to present a youth workshop on the major causes of homelessness on Dec. 2.

The youth "paid very close attention, were concerned and motivated to engage this issue on some level," said Naim Shah, Jr., executive director of ILM Foundation.

He added the goal is to bring the community to be active in serving others. "ILM encourages more communities to follow the example of OCIF in providing forums to educate on a variety of issues that will, at some point, impact their lives," he said, adding that the first step for change is awareness.

ILM is a human services organization that was founded in 1998 with the mission to "teach life skills to replace social ills," Shah said.

It stands for Intellect, Love and Mercy. The organization serves the community through three main programs: Humanitarian Day, Go Beyond the G.A.M.E. Student Athlete mentoring program and Eat Right to Think Right Free Food Program.
