Officials from the FBI and local law enforcement agencies kept a close eye on the 400 people gathered to hear Jacob Dayan warn the crowd of fundamentalist Islam.
Dayan, who assumed the position in October 2007, said he only condones negotiation with secular nationalist Muslims.
"[Secular nationalist Muslims] don’t want the elimination of the state of Israel," reasoned Dayan, a graduate of Tel Aviv University with a Bachelor’s in history.
Dayan argued that the Jews have a legal right to the land, according to the Bible.
"We are there to stay," he said to an ovation.
A Palestinian man, who said he was a Fatah supporter, disrupted Dayan.
"Today you massacred 28 Palestinians, 9 of whom are under 17 years of age!" the man yelled. "Don’t brainwash the people!" he continued as security officials escorted him out.
Dayan, who previously served at the Palestinian Affairs Desk in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem, reasoned that the rockets being fired on Sderot by Gazan militants confirm that Palestinians want Israel to reoccupy the already devastated territory.
"I’m not convinced most of them want a state…they’re with Hamas," he explained.
Dayan also argued the election that elected Hamas was invalid. "They’re not democratic, they want to kill us," he said.
He also defended the wall, of which 80 percent infringes on Palestinian territory. "Fences are removable, human lives are not."
