Well, the beauty pageant in question was recently held in Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates, the oil-rich sheikhdom that has more sheikhs per square mile than it has ordinary citizens. The wealth that pours in each year from the black gold has given it political and social stature beyond its wildest dreams. With overflowing coffers, the profligate rulers of Abu Dhabi have been busy spending their oil-earned capital on anything that could garner them fame and immortality. Hence, they are building a replica of the Guggenheim, have struck a multi-billion dollar deal with the Louvre Museum to expropriate French culture and display it in Abu Dhabi, and are planning to beat their rivals and equally-profligate sheikhs in Dubai in building the tallest, largest, biggest, longest and most expensive building/theme park/airport/mall/tower/and whatever-can-bring-more-fame-and-grandeur.

OK, by now you must be dying to know what this beauty pageant is for, right? Here it is ... it’s a beauty pageant for CAMELS! Yes, C-A-M-E-L-S!!!

AFP reported that 10,000 camels participated in the pageant held in Abu Dhabi in early April.

You may react in either one of two ways: laughter or disgust. How does a camel beauty pageant exactly work? Camels in tank tops? Camels in bikinis with lipstick and mascara? Or is this just a new way of expanding on the derogatory "camel jockey"?

The quadrupeds were paraded for the top prize before a huge audience from around Gulf countries, and the event was dubbed a "show of cultural heritage" (at about the same time a new euphemism for "profligate brainless billionaire Arabs" was entered in the lexicon of derogatory references to oil-rich Arabs). The top camels were reportedly bought for as little as $2.72 million and as much as $4.49 millions (plus 100 cars in giveaway prizes).

OK, now let’s put things in perspective here.

At a time when Iraqis are being blown to smithereens on a daily basis, when Muslims in Darfur are being massacred by their own government (and neither the Sudanese government nor any Muslim organization has ever been able to convince us to think otherwise), when 90 percent of people in Gaza are living on U.N. handouts, it is outrageous, shallow, even blasphemous for these camel-crazed sheikhs, who not long ago were barefoot and starved, to throw a camel beauty pageant and spend money as if it were refuse.

Many Muslims like to redirect their anger and frustration by blaming Israel for everything that has befallen them. Many love to bash Zionist Jews and blame them for the problems of the Muslim Ummah, but yet one can only wonder what would these Jews do if roles were reversed and Arab countries were Jewish, if Gaza were Jewish and Israel were Arab?

There is no doubt these Jewish countries would turn Gaza into a paradise flowing with milk and honey. Almost certainly, these Jews would never let 90 percent of their fellow Jews live on U.N. handouts, watch helplessly as Arab jets pummel their brethren and starve them to death. They would certainly not sit idly by and watch if Jewish Darfur were being raped and pillaged by a Jewish government in Sudan.

But truth is, there has never been an incident in recent history of Jews blowing up each other, raping, exploiting and killing each other, and certainly not holding camel beauty pageants when their fellow Jews were starving to death or being occupied and blowup in a nearby country. This is a bitter truth that can no more be disregarded than the sun can be blocked with the palm of one hand. It is a shame on all Arabs and Muslims when mind-blowing outrageousness barely registers on their collective consciousness, but fault for their ineptitude, callousness, incompetence and abject failures are blamed on a common enemy.

At a time when Israel has become a formidable military power — a technologically-advanced state with brainpower that rivals anything in the West, a state that has nuclear weapons and conventional arms it now sells to countries like China and India — Arabs are either whining, blowing themselves up or throwing camel beauty pageants.

It is lamentable, laughable and epically sad to realize the state of moral impoverishment and decadence Arab rulers have sunk to. The gatekeepers of Western interests, those who press the yoke of servitude down the necks of their powerless people, revel in extravagance and will amount to nothing but discarded footnotes in history’s chapter for "Profligate Dictators."

There was a time, not too long ago, when Arabs and Muslims lead the world in astronomy, physics and mathematics, and contributed tremendously to the betterment of the human race ... a time when Muslims exported science and enlightenment to the world.

Now, and sadly, they are perceived by the world as nothing but exporters of terrorism, belly dancers, profligacy and — thanks to Abu Dhabi sheikhs — camel beauty pageants.
