Los Angeles International Airport recently barred religious groups from soliciting donations at airports. While some believe the act is harmless, others feel disturbed when asked to donate. We at InFocus hit the streets and asked Muslims “Do you think religious groups should be able to solicit donations at the airport?”
“I don’t think they should be allowed to solicit for donations because it infringes on people’s privacy while they’re traveling. It can be a nuisance.” (Aakifah Kabeer-White, 35 Torrance) “ I’m against the solicitations because its hard to know exactly where the money is going and I would rather not be bothered while I’m traveling” (Hanna Abdulhameed, 41, Hawthorne) “ I don’t see why not. There is no harm in it especially cause we’re exposed to so many different people coming from around the world.” (Akram Qawasem, 22, Los Angeles) “ I don’t think they should be allowed to because it inconveniences people. It’s not the place for it.” (Issam Shatara, 48, El Segundo) “ I think they have the right to ask. They’re not forcing anybody” (Mohammad Djellali, 36, Longdale) “ I don’t see why they shouldn’t be able to simply ask. People who want to donate have the choice, they shouldn’t be bothering anybody.” (Jude Abdin, 19, Dubai) “It should be allowed because they’re not harming anybody by asking for donations.” (Nour Rustom, 11, Pasadena) “ I guess I don’t see the harm in it really. They’re just people with a belief” (Dina Noureldine, 15, Culver City) |
