CAIR-SFBA receives awards |

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – A leading civil rights organization was recognized by the county and by two congressmen for its work in building positive human relations in its community.
The San Francisco Bay Area chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-SFBA) received a Special Merit Award from the Santa Clara County Office of Human Relations Certificates of Special Recognition from Congressman Mike Honda (D-15) and Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (D-16).
The Office of Human Relations honored CAIR-SFBA "in recognition of their outstanding and dedicated service to building positive human relations in Santa Clara County." The commendation also noted that "their steadfast commitment and leadership have made a positive difference in the lives of many in our community."
In addition, the California State Board of Equalization congratulated CAIR-SFBA for receiving the Special Merit award, and presented a resolution recognizing CAIR’s "exemplary leadership and advocacy for civil rights and [it’s] important work to empower American Muslims and to promote a positive image of Islam and Muslims in America."
In her acceptance speech, CAIR-SFBA excutive director Safa Ibrahim thanked the Human Relations Office for the recognition, emphasizing the need for mutual cooperation in achieving shared goals. "If we want to live in a better world, we have to work together to make it a better place to live in - not just for me, not just for you, but for all of us," she said.
