Avatar – a $300M political agenda Print E-mail
By Sama Wareh, Staff Writer
Thursday, 07 January 2010

The messages in “Avatar” go beyond a sci-fi flick and extend to Environmentalism, government corruption – mimicking U.S. politics –  and capitalism at the cost of exploiting Natives.

As I sat watching “Avatar,” a mixture of many movies ran through my mind: “Dances with Wolves,” “Ferngully,” “Pocahontas,” and “Braveheart.”

However, before those movies ran through my mind, the reality we are facing here in the United States came first.

The movie takes place on the planet of Pandora, a lush rainforest environment with floating mountains and original fantasy creatures, including the peaceful Na’vi people, a race of  tall, blue, humanoids with tails.

Everything in this planet would be perfect for exploitation, except there is one problem: the natural resource the corporation wants lies underneath the land of the Na’vi people.
