5 killed in Colorado Springs gay nightclub shooting

Five people were killed Saturday night at a gay nightclub in Colorado Springs, Colorado, police announced. Another 18 people were injured in the shooting at Club Q.

Officers received “numerous” 911 calls and responded to the incident starting at 11:57 p.m., Colorado Springs police Lt. Pamela Castro said.

“They found a suspect inside,” Castro said. “At this time, the suspect is being treated but remains in custody.”

Castro did not clarify whether the suspect was included in the number of those injured in the shooting.

Police declined to discuss a possible motive. Colorado Springs Fire Capt. Mike Smaldino said 11 ambulances responded to the scene after multiple 911 calls.

“We’ll be here for several more hours,” Castro said, adding that the FBI is on scene and assisting.

A Report On social media, Club Q said it was “devastated by this senseless attack on our community” and offered condolences to the victims and their families.

We are thankful for the quick reactions of heroic customers who subdued the gunman and ended this hateful attack. Details of how the shooting ended have not yet been released by police, but Castro said “this was not an officer-involved shooting.”

This is a developing story and will be updated.
