At least two people were killed and at least five were injured in what became known as the “Drive-By” mass shooting in San Antonio late Saturday, the local police chief said.
Seven people were shot dead while a family was barbecuing outside a home around 10pm, with several children inside, San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said. He told reporters during the press conference.
McManus said an unspecified number of people went home and were “unloaded” between 20 and 30 rounds. Two of the victims were women and the other five were men; He told reporters that their age ranged from 20 to the mid-forties.
He said six children were inside the house when the shooting took place, but they were not injured.
“Fortunately, they are not ahead,” he said.
McManus warned that the police did not have details about the suspects and that they had “two principles” regarding the purpose of the shooting, while the investigation was at an early stage.
“Currently, seven people are shooting at the barbecue in front of the house, one is driving, several rounds are shooting, two are dead and five are injured. Two women, five men, ”he said briefly. “Two men are dead.”
